Mary Jo. (Duffy) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 26, 2012 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Mary Jo came to Santa Fe in the 1940's and graduated from Lorretto Academy in 1947. After graduation she worked for Mountain Bell for a few years before attending and graduating from nursing school in Denver, CO. Upon returning to Santa Fe, NM she worked for a number of physicians, as well as helping her father at times, Dr. L.B. Duffy D.V.M. Mary Jo was married to Wm Bruce Paul in St. Francis Cathedral in 1956, they then began their family in 1957, raising five children. Mary Jo returned to work in 1967 working for The State Treasures Office. It was there she found she had a great talent for business and finance. She continued at the Treasure's until her retirement as an investment officer in the 90's. After retirement Mary Jo enjoyed traveling, quilting and her ever present crossword puzzles. Mary Jo is preceded in death by her husband; Wm Bruce Paul; grandson, "Lil"Dave Funck; mother, Lorretta E. Duffy; father, Dr. Lawrence B. Duffy and brothers, Robert G. Duffy and Thomas Patrick Duffy. She is survived by her children, Michael Paul (Deborah) of Las Cruces, NM, Anne M. Jones, Marty E. Paul, Eileen M. Funck, David M. Paul all of Santa Fe, NM; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mary Jo will be remembered as a loving, devoted mother and loyal friend. She had many lifelong friends that she met along the way, as well as close friends she knew only a short time. She will be sadly missed but remembered fondly for her Irish tenacity, humor, and love for animals. Mary Jo was a proud, lifelong Catholic and founding parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Johns Soup Kitchen and the Carmelite Monastery. A Rosary will be recited today, Thursday March 29, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Johns Baptist Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, March 30, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Johns Baptist Catholic Church. Mary Jo will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
