CASADY -- Margaret Ann age 91, of Santa Fe, NM passed away on March 11, 2012, at El Castillo. Ann was a loving mother, stepmother and friend to many. Born March 20, 1920, to Loren and Lois Lupfer, Ann was raised on a dryland Kansas farm and attended Kansas State University where she received her Bachelors in journalism. Ann and her first husband, Joe Reed, ventured to Santa Fe in 1942 and settled on Canyon Road. She lived in Santa Fe all the rest of her life, but maintained a strong place in her heart for her Kansas farmland and her many close friends there. Following Joe's death in 1963, Ann raised her three children as a single mother, and worked at Santa Fe National Bank. She married her second husband, Thomas Jameson, in 1967, and Ann became active in the academic life of St. Johns College, where Tom was a tutor. He died unexpectedly in 1982, and Ann later married Phil Casady. Ann and Phil enjoyed wonderful years together before his death in 1996. In all her life and in her marriages she sought and recognized the value of sustaining love and relationships. Ann was an avid hiker and founding member of the Santa Fe Chile and Marching Society and came to know New Mexico's land intimately. She traveled abroad and hiked extensively in Spain, France, India and England. Her talents and interests were diverse-she was the New Mexico women's singles trap shooting champion in 1951 and 1953, an accomplished horsewoman and gourmet cook. She regularly attended the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and Santa Fe Opera. Her years in Kansas during the Dust Bowl shaped an unselfish and generous nature. She was instrumental in realizing the designation of a family parcel as the now-named Arroyo Hondo Open Space. But primarily Ann was a people person, and she loved nothing more than to be at a dinner table with family and friends where her sharp wit and articulate command of language entertained and challenged all. Ann is survived by her three children, Patricia Reed, of Tijeras, NM; Albert Reed and his wife Debra Moody of Santa Fe; Elizabeth (Betsy) Reed of Santa Fe; her brother David A Lupfer; her four nephews and their families; and many close stepchildren and their families. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the many devoted and kind staff of El Castillo and the Presbyterian Hospice Center. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Santa Fe Conservation Trust, PO Box 23985, Santa Fe, NM, 87502 or the Santa Fe Trail Center, 1349 K156 Hwy., Larned, KS, 67550. A memorial service and celebration of Ann's life will be held at El Castillo, 250 East Alameda St., Santa Fe, NM in the Community Room on Friday, March 23, 2012 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Interment will follow later in the spring in Larned, Kansas.
